The League of Special Education Voters of the United States, Inc. (League) is an independent, nonprofit, tax-exempt organization of parents and concerned citizens, whose primary mission is supporting the education rights of children with diverse needs by monitoring political developments, educating our legislators, the media, and the general public, and empowering the families of this nation's children with disabilities

The League combines both traditional and innovative means to support its members. Use of the Internet is central to the League's activities. Materials are distributed in electronic form whenever possible to reduce reproduction and distribution costs. You can join our SpEdVoters Yahoo Group at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/SpEdVoters even if you are not a League member.

The League’s strength and unique focus are strongly rooted in its financial independence. Its financial needs are met primarily through memberships, conference and training sessions and publication sales; donations are welcome. The League is a tax-exempt §501(c)(4) organization; donations are NOT deductible as charitable contributions.  A Board of Directors consisting of parents and professionals monitors the League’s priorities and expenditures.  More than two-thirds (2/3) of the members of the Board are parents of children with disabilities.

League Membership: Benefits

  • Direction Setting: League members’ feedback to the Board of Directors will help set League direction, and members will elect the Board of Directors.  In addition, only members can become members of the Board.
  • Discounts: League members will receive reduced conference fees and discounts on League merchandise.
  • Annual Conference: In addition, the League hopes to offer an annual conference to provide training and educational opportunities to parents, advocates, and attorneys in the future.

League Membership: Responsibilities

  • Timely Feedback: On occasion, the Board of Directors may request timely feedback on issues that may arise which require near-term responses to be effective.
  • Volunteerism: The League is a volunteer-run organization.  As such, members are requested to volunteer, as their time permits, for various projects throughout their terms of membership.
